Faculty Onboarding for the General Education Department.

I was asked by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Air Link International Aviation College to develop and facilitate an online onboarding program for the new faculty members of the General Education Department. Using the ADDIE model as my instructional design framework, I created a streamlined, one-day training program tailored to the department’s needs and current online setup.

To start, I consulted with Human Resources to identify what new faculty members needed to know before stepping into their roles. They provided valuable insights on key policies, systems, and expectations. Given the tight timeline and the need for a fully online format, I focused on building a training program that was both comprehensive and efficient.

We decided to deliver the onboarding through Articulate 360, specifically Rise 360, to make the content interactive and easy to navigate. I crafted learning objectives based on Bloom’s Taxonomy and created a storyboard to outline key topics, prioritize essential content, and plan strategies to keep things engaging despite the time constraints.

The lessons were developed in Rise 360, with visual elements designed using Canva to make the course visually appealing and easy to follow. Knowledge checks were included at the end of each section to help new faculty review and reflect on what they learned. Canvas LMS was intentionally excluded from this round of onboarding, as it was scheduled to be covered in a separate training session.

Before launching the course, three existing faculty members reviewed the content for clarity and relevance, while a representative from HR checked it for accuracy and policy alignment.

Once finalized, the course was rolled out to the new faculty, who were given access to complete it at their own pace. I hosted a live Q&A session via Google Meet to address any questions or concerns. After completing the training, participants were granted access to institutional files and systems necessary for online teaching.

To improve the onboarding experience, I added a short feedback survey at the end of the course. I also conducted a follow-up check-in one month later to gather additional feedback on what worked well and what could be improved. These insights were used to update and refine the onboarding program for future use.
