I was tasked with designing the Technical Writing and Reporting course for Air Link International Aviation College.
To get started, I did my research and spoke with a subject matter expert and the assigned instructor to make sure the content would be accurate, relevant, and aligned with real-world expectations. I also reviewed the college’s teaching manual and course standards. While I had experience teaching the subject, I needed to revisit key areas—especially online delivery policies—since this was a new curriculum with no pre-existing materials.
Once the direction was clear, I developed the course syllabus and, after getting it approved, began building the full course module. The institution had specific requirements: materials needed to be lightweight and accessible for students with limited internet bandwidth, so I focused on keeping everything clean, simple, and easy to load.
I created a mockup in Google Classroom and used Google Docs and Slides to build the lessons. After that, I developed the knowledge checks, formative assessments, and summative tasks. To make the experience more engaging, I integrated a gamified approach using Badgr, which pairs seamlessly with Canvas LMS, allowing students to earn digital badges as they progress.
Visual design mattered too—so I used Canva to create assets that were both eye-catching and instructional. Every part of the module, from lessons to assessments, was intentionally designed to meet both learner needs and client expectations.
After the materials were approved, I migrated everything to Canvas LMS for implementation. In 2022, I updated the course to support a new instructor and reflect the school’s transition to hybrid learning. Minor revisions included updating examples, refining layouts, and aligning with updated curriculum and accreditation standards.
